Career Expo 2024 was a great opportunity for Osakis students to get exposed to several local careers. OHS was fortunate to have a variety of businesses and colleges willing to spend the day with our students educating them and showing them different careers. The amount of Osakis alumni that showed support for this event was amazing! Thank you to all the participants of this first annual Career Expo!
A big "Thank You" to the Alexandria Sertoma Club for the generous donation of a new Audiometer with special ear muffs. This machine will help make testing for younger students easier.

A special shout and congratulations to both the high school concert band and high school concert choir. Both ensembles earned a superior rating at large group contests. Their award and ratings at contest are an affirmation of the dedication of excellence in their rehearsals! Congratulations to both ensembles!
It may not feel like spring, however on Thursday, March 28th the elementary school will be celebrating spring in honor of the Opening Day of the MLB and Twins season. I am encouraging students and staff to wear their favorite Twins or baseball apparel to school. - Mr. Schmidt

Congratulations to the official first group of Osakis High School students to be inducted into the National Honor Society! This group of young leaders will continue to inspire others to be the best they can be. They are simply an amazing group!
Osakis school and community members,
We are in the process of organizing a Silverstreak Foundation Advisory Committee and need your help steering interested individuals to this cause! We are looking for 5-7 committed members willing to play a key role in getting a foundation off the ground so it can begin benefitting our school, students, and community by building an additional funding source that we hope leads to more non-local dollars coming into our school and community.
We are proposing to have an initial meeting with those interested sometime in early April. At this point, the expectations of potential committee members would be to begin the formation of the Foundation by working with West Central Initiative, Superintendent, Board Chair, and one of our staff members who has expertise in the area of foundations and nonprofits. West Central Initiative has helped a number of school districts in our region establish foundations that contribute to the school for a variety of purposes. By partnering with West Central Initiative, the Foundation will have 501c3 status, which can aid in receiving donations, estate planning for large donors, administering fundraising efforts for school groups, and involves an Advisory Committee to guide both fundraising efforts and fund disbursement. It's important to mention that the Foundation is not run by the school or school board, it is at the direction of the Advisory Committee. This independence allows more flexibility for donors, offers options for creative fundraising endeavors, and engages the Advisory Committee in allocating funds in alignment with the mission of the foundation.
We are looking to our Advisory Committee Members to provide insight and guidance as we put together the Silverstreak Foundation in partnership with the West Central Initiative. Once the mission, formal documents, and operating procedures are completed, the Advisory Committee will focus efforts on building a plan for fundraising, appropriating funds, and eventual disbursement of funds for causes that support our school, staff, and students. We would likely have no more than 4-8 meetings per year.

Out of 14 teams at the Fluid Power Action Challenge hosted by ATCC Osakis 8th-grades took 1st and 3rd place. Congratulations students and coach!
Kindergarten Screening Reminder
The District has contracted Morris Leatherman to conduct a telephone survey of households in our School District. If you are contacted by them, please consider giving them your time and input. This is the start of our Strategic Planning update and the information from this survey will be critical in establishing the future priorities of the School District.

Scholarship packets were handed out to seniors last week. So many students are busy with after school activities and jobs that it is hard for them to dedicate time to work on applications.
I will be hosting a Cash and Cookies Scholarship Workshop. This is be Friday, March 15th during 2nd hour in the cafeteria. Students can bring their scholarship packets and I will bring cookies/snacks and they will hopefully all earn some cash!
