Deputy Nicole Swanson, Student Resource Officer
Nicole Swanson was born and raised in Douglas County, where she now lives on a small hobby farm with her husband and two children. With her husband also working in law enforcement, their household is always bustling. Before becoming a Deputy, Nicole earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a Sociology focus from Concordia University in Saint Paul. She began her career as a Family and Youth Advocate at the Harriet Tubman Shelter in Maplewood, later returning home to join the Sheriff’s Office as a 911 Dispatcher while completing the Law Enforcement Skills program.
Since 2015, Nicole has held various roles within the Sheriff’s Office, including Road Patrol, Water Patrol, School Resource Officer, DARE instructor, and member of the Domestic Violence Task Force, Douglas County Sheriff’s Federation, and SWAT Negotiations and Peer Support. She also serves on the Minnesota DARE Board. Recently, she completed the Women in Leadership certificate from Minnesota State University in Mankato and the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association Institute for Credible Leadership certification.
Nicole believes that law enforcement is a calling. While it can be challenging, she emphasizes that maintaining a pure heart and remembering one’s initial motivations makes the service truly rewarding.
‘Deputy Nicole’ is currently serving at Osakis Public School’s SRO.
